UMORE AZOKA 2002 PRIZEWINNERS

BASQUE THEATRE BEST SHOW
“D.S.O” of the Company Markeliñe, for a work of expressive intensity, which tells a story with content and which makes an impact in its use of scenic elements

REST OF THE WORLD BEST SHOW
Boni y familia Ramírez, for its work entitled “Tres Mejor que Dos” (Three Better Than Two), in which with an old truck as a scenographic element, handling intelligent humour and quality of execution of juggling, acrobatic and trapeze numbers, they manage to attain a synthesis of tendencies of the new circus which reaches audiences of all age levels.

SPECIAL MENTION
Berni Brothers, due to its paradigmatic performance of what is the authentic spirit of the street theatre and humour, on offering a simple, very dynamic work of great technical difficulty, and due to the circumstances of the artists themselves who have no fixed domicile, or any further structure than their caravan, and live on what they obtain from their work in the streets and squares around the world, offering a refined, likable and warm artistic product.

UMORE AZOKA II PRIZE
This award is granted to those companies, bodies, etc., who support, promote and revitalise performing street arts.

On 31st May and during the welcome ceremony for the companies, programmers and communications media, the UMORE AZOKA Prize was awarded to Festival de Teatro de Eibar, a body which this year celebrates its 25th year. This prize was presented by the Mayor of Leioa and the Cultural Director of the Basque Government.
