Alfonso arrives and opens up his cart to the amazement of those who come to take a look. It contains more than a hundred items in all shapes and styles. People crowd around him and ask him things about them, he describes them and tells a little story about each one.
Little children are fascinated by the places they come from, whereas older people want to know what they are used for and the more sceptical ones doubt what they hear.
In the end each one believes what they want to believe.
When night falls, Alfonso sits down in front of a small fire, lights his oil lamp and as he eats a chunk of cheese and takes a few swigs from his wine bottle he begins his fascinating tale. He ends up making a coffee in the warmth of the embers and gathers up his belongings as he heads off for another place where he can mend some old pot and regale people with fresh stories.
Alfonso is a character from the 1940-50s who has gatecrashed our lives.
